Allure Beauty Box Review Part 1

In my quest to find a new replacement box now that Sephora has discontinued theirs I tried out the Allure Beauty Box last month. If you missed it I had previously reviewed the September Birchbox. As an introductory offer they actually sent me two boxes so this is part 1 because I thought it was too much to condense into one post.

Allure Beauty Box, Pixi, Whish, Floss,
Allure Beauty Box

Each box came with seven beauty items that are a mix between skin care and make up products. In the first box I received five skin care items and two beauty items but I believe the ratio of items is based on your quiz preferences that you fill out on the site. There was also a bonus Mally beauty eye shadow stick which I liked but wasn't really anything special for me. It was a super light pink color that isn't very flattering on my pale skin tone unfortunately.

I have been using the Pixi Rose Oil Blend, Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum and H2O+ Hydration Sensitive Gel Cream Moisturizer. Prior to the box I hadn't heard of Sulwhasoo or H2O+ but I am familiar with Pixi as a Target brand. The Pixi oil was full size and the other two were good sample sizes. I like the Pixi and Sulwhasoo products but I think it's too early to have a full formed opinion on how the skin care will work for me. The hydrating cream isn't thick enough but I have very dry skin so this might be a better option if you are oily. I'd imagine people with oilier skin might not like the Pixi skin oil so I think having both is a good blend of products.

The box also included a Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar but I knew this would be too much for my skin. I've been having my fiance test it out as he has tougher more oily skin and so far he said it's been good so far but nothing noteworthy to report back.

The final skin care item was a Brightening Lift Up Perfect Fit Mask from Looks & Meii. I haven't tried this out yet but I will report back when I do!

The two make up products included were a Floss Brightening Highlighter in Sunlit and Whish Botanical Primer. I have used both of these but don't like either enough to purchase the full size.

So pros: I do like the variety of products and they include a promo code for each in the pamphlet that comes with the box. The Pixi oil and Floss highlighter were full size products which is more than what I think other boxes send. They also did a good mix of both high end and more budget skin care.

and cons... The box is $23 a month or $250 for a year. That's more expensive than the Birchbox for $16.35 each for three months. I also didn't love any of the products in this box and two weren't really usable for me because of my skin type so I imagine if you had oilier skin you'd find that for the skin care products that worked well for me wouldn't work for you.

I don't think I'll be continuing this subscription box for now but I'm interested to know what you think. Let me know in the comments below!
